Three Reasons Why We Should Adventure
Adventure for Family
Because this is your family! (and isn’t that in itself an adventure?) There was a time not that long ago where families were put above all else. This country was founded by people who felt that way… from the original inhabitants to those who came here to seek a new and better life. For what? Why did they risk everything? Yes religious persecution, and yes defending the homeland, and a myriad of other reasons but underneath it all there is a common reason. One guess…
Family
Yup! People wanted a better life… we later called it The American Dream.
Adventure because of DNA
To adventure is in our DNA. We’re Americans! And we come from a long line of people who were either here living off the land or people who came here looking for a better life…either way we Americans are explorers and adventurers. The country wasn’t founded by people sitting around watching TV. No! Americans push forward! We want the best for and do our best for our family! And it’s a tradition that we’ve collectively kept alive and well for hundreds of years. Think of all the things that were explored, invited, discovered… because we are curious creatures and want to adventure!
Adventure to Tell Stories
And we tell great stories! Oh do we tell great stories!!! Like no one else on the planet, in fact!
Natural Storytellers
The 500+ Native American nations that first called this place home functioned on what is known today as Oral Tradition. Its a fancy way of saying all the teachings, lessons, and histories were passed down through stories.
Many of the cultures who immigrated here from Europe were also masters of oral tradition. From Irish ballads and Scottish poems, to family histories kept alive the retelling of tales on winter nights was common. We all came from somewhere and that somewhere had stories.
America became a nation of storytellers.
History of Storytelling
It should be no surprise we Americans have been responsible for best selling authors and playwrights. Heck, we invented Hollywood, the undeniable crown jewel of the world in storytelling!
We listen to stories every day in advertising, excuses for why someone was late or the homework didn’t get done, every song on the radio, every campaign, every book, every church sermon, and every TV show.
Storytelling is all around us. Sometimes it’s used for entertainment, sometimes for education, and sometimes to persuede.
Because storytelling is everywhere, it is easy to disconnect from the art of it and become passive watchers instead of actively creating our own stories.
That changes today.
Today is the day to connect with your inner adventurer and begin creating memories that will turn to epic tales you and your family will share for years to come!
Are you excited? You should be! Being a person of adventure is a critical mindset in this digital age. It embraces the philosophy of being present in the moment and actively living it with zest! A true adventure will have twists and turns and the adventurer will be ready for them as best they can, will take them in stride, and no matter what happens will end up with a great story to tell!! Do it for your family and do it WITH your family! Make memories and make your ancestors proud! And have GREAT stories for the next office party, friend get together, family dinner even!

I don’t tear up much but this really hit home… “Because storytelling is everywhere, it is easy to disconnect from the art of it and become passive watchers instead of actively creating our own stories.” I think with my kids being older and everyone working and school and harder to get together that when we have time we are doing a lot of watching other peoples stories instead of creating our own. I need to set a set schedule that everyone meets to make sure we have these stories. Great article!
