I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award! SO COOL!
The Versatile Blogger Award is the best of the chain letter awards out there in the blogosphere because it is completely organic and comes from one fellow blogger to another. Yay us!
Thank You
First of all, thank you to Mama Bear Outdoors for nominating This Family. I met Mama Bear in a blogging group and was instantly impressed with her equal parts or nurturing and fierceness (like a mama bear, duh) She’s a fab human who encourages people to get outdoors and enjoy life. I hope to meet her in person one of these days (on a mountain adventure of course) but in the meantime, I will continue to love her blog and you should too. (links in this paragraph)
Fifteen Fab Blogs
Because paying it forward is a win for everyone and it feels good…here are 15 blogs I think are excellent and are now officially nominated for a Versatile Blogger Award.

Seven Things About Me
- Genealogy is my jam. I’ve discovered so many cool things in our ancestry including we’re related to Abraham Lincoln, Sir Isaac Newton, Mayflower Passengers, Three Native Nations, and I’m on a mission to find a pirate and a witch (I just know they are there somewhere). I’m in the process of getting savvy and certified through DAR so I can help other people find treasures in their family trees too.
- I lie about my age constantly. My goal is to thoroughly confuse people so they will never really know how old I am. I figure this will also help when I’m senile and can’t remember anyhow. Because seriously, why do people even ask that? I’m clearly legal to go to a bar and I have two kids. No further discussion needed.
- My favorite school supply to buy every year is a brand new planner. It is my favorite thing (next to new boots and coffee) that I buy for myself. It goes with me everywhere and I use it every single day. I’m a little obsessive about it but it’s the only way I know to juggle all my projects and schedules of the family not to mention the countless lists. I’ve instilled my addiction in both my children successfully.
- We love celebrating. In This Family we pretty much function from one holiday to the next. We like to come up with different experiences and adventures. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Burns Night… Always an excuse to have fun with the fam!
- I love a good story! I’ve worked in Hollywood for years and before that I was a teacher. My ancestors were storytellers…it’s in the blood. So when we travel, I’m not a lay on the beach kind of girl. I’d rather explore ruins and learn the story behind them. Most of the time the fam is on board… but sometimes they just humor me and my tangents. I am a plethora of bizarre historical knowledge…but I can tell a great story just about anywhere!
- I’m a rare bird that does tea AND coffee. I like tea as natural medicine and for calming and cleansing effects. I’ve harvested my own herbs and used them according to tradition but coffee, well that’s my happy place. It’s been said I even bleed coffee.
- History fascinates me.What we’ve been told, what the real stories are. What we can learn. I’m particularly interested in American history. We’re so young as a country but things have changed and continue to so quickly that much of our cultural identity is at risk of being lost. My hope is through my blog and my life work I can be a voice for others to learn, appreciate and even be proud of our nation (because despite our faults we are pretty cool y’all!).
How I live my life and know if I’m doing a good job: Hold family close, Have great adventures, and Have great stories to share!
Thank you for the honor to receive and to pass it on! Let’s get adventuring and supporting and um, let’s go get some coffee!!
