Our annual tradition of the witches brunch celebrate a wee bit of history and a whole lot of fun.
Boil Boil toil and trouble….Insert evil witch cackle here…
Tradition born in mystery
It’s unclear exactly when witches came on the historical scene and it’s just as unclear exactly when we started doing a witches brunch in This Family. Seriously… I’ve asked everyone and no one can pin point it.
We have so many photos of us dressed up as witches over the years we cannot use that as our guidepost either.
We’re fans of Harry Potter so we’ve dressed up as witches for many a Potter event as well. What we do know is that we in This Family love an excuse to get dressed up and enjoy life…so somewhere along the line we started the Witches Brunch and its become an annual tradition we look forward to each fall. We all dress up like witches and wizards and we head out to a local restaurant.

That’s it!
It’s not a complicated tradition but it is a fun one! Every year we try to go to a place that has pie and coffee and hot chocolate. No particular reason other than these things make our tummies smile!
We like coffee and hot chocolate because these are things we can stir and look very witchy doing so.

Spreading the Magic
This year it’s a little different for us since Madison Bella is in Indiana at college and I was going to be very sad missing her festive self but it actually works even better because she roped in more of the family to participate! So the witches ride again…this year in a couple states!
Who knows, maybe our fun will catch on everywhere!
Ingredients to the Witches Brunch
The most important ingredient to the Witches’ Brunch is an epic hat. You can get one HERE.
Throw on a cloak or a dress because the rest can be as simple as dark clothing and a great attitude. OR….it can be as over the top as you want to be!
The next important ingredient is hot chocolate, coffee, and any other thing you can drink or eat and appear witchy and pretend to do spells with…
OH but the last ingredient to an epic witches brunch is really just a fun lively attitude!

Cast a Spell-Share the Joy
I can’t tell you how many little grandmas and grandpas have come up to us and thanked us for being silly and complimenting us on our outfits and our fun.
It’s a simple day that brings a lot of joy to all who are around.
Finishing With A Touch of Magic
I feel very strongly where ever you land for witched brunch there needs to be whipped cream. It is an essential ingredient to a proper witches brew and goes well in hot chocolate as well as coffee. Sprinkles are optional and now that there are edible glittery sprinkles in the world, all the more magical…
Seriously!!! Have you seen this amzingness???

So glad you like this! I think its a fab idea to do with friends as well but I gotta be honest, the BEST compliments we get from all the little grandmas and grandpas are when we do it with the kids. But I fully endorse any chance to dress up, have fun, and spread a bit o cheer!
