Make your face glow all autumn with this simple DIY pumpkin face mask.
Why pumpkin?
Well, pumpkins are believed to have originated in North America. Seeds from related plants have been found in Mexico dating back to 7000 to 5500 B.C.
That means people have been using pumpkins for a LONG LONG time and have a good understanding of the benefits of them as something to eat and other uses that benefit the body. (Like a healthy gorgeous face glow all autumn)
What to do with the Leftover Pumpkin Puree
If you read my last blog post, you will remember that my very thoughtful husband bought me a very large can of pumpkin puree and with that jar of autumn goodness, I was able to create pumpkin dog treats that drove Bailey mad, Pumpkin donut holes, and pumpkin bread.
I pretty much decided I was the Pumpkin Queen because these all turned out amazing but what I found amazing still…was that there was STILL pumpkin left!
So, after noodling it around a bit, I came up with another wicked idea…one that Jack Skellington himself would be proud of… PUMPKIN FACE MASKS!
Autumn in a Bowl
Well I stirred up the magical potion and it smelled WONDERFUL! It was autumn awesome in a dish!
Sage wanted to try it first so I gave her one of my makeup brushes and let her have at it.
What we found is it was better to dab on rather then to brush. If we brushed, the application was much thinner and to get the full benefit of the enzymes and heavy hit of vitamin C, we wanted a thicker coat.
Science Behind the Magic
Here’s the Science behind the magic: When natural fruit enzymes are combined with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) the results are brightening, lightening, and clarifying on the skin.
What that means in real people terms is this delightful combination makes the skin softer while boosting collagen production which significantly reduces signs of aging.
Is this a Great Pumpkin miracle? No… but it is the science of skin care.
Tips for Best Results
Once the masks were on I set the timer for twenty minutes. Here’s more unsolicited advice (but it will help give better results)… if you choose to do this mask I recommend you don’t let it dry.
This is not a skin tightening mask. It should stay moist so make use of a steamy shower or have a humidifier in the room.
Also, again, be generous with the application. That will help it from drying out as well.
Did we look like The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, perhaps…
Washing it Off
When the timer went off it was time to wash it off. Bailey, being the kind and ever helpful service dog he is, stepped right up to help Sage.
My skin felt great! I for sure feel like the mask exfoliated the dead skin cells, I felt the enzymes doing their enzymy thing (a little tingly) and my skin absolutely ended up being lightened, brightened, and more clear then before.
Noticable Results
They say ‘the proof is in the pudding’. In this case, it’s in the puree! Here’s our before and after photos. I didn’t retouch them at all. Same place. Same lighting. The results are instant! I think it’s evident that pumpkin is our friend!
