Description
This historically accurate recipe is for mareshal pomatum for hair. Everything is 100% natural in it. Used together with hair powder, this enables the wearer to build those fancy hairdos of the late 1700’s.
BONUS: This will be an amazing conditioner for your hair! You won’t believe it!
Pomatum recipes of the 18th century were generally made with animal fat as a base. This pomade uses mutton tallow as it’s base which is the hardest of all tallow. The result is a solid pomade that is easy to transport and use. Think of it as the Aquanet of the 1700’s. It is ‘flavored’ with Orris Root which binds to the tallow and releases more light fragrance over time. Protein based pomatums work the best on human hair because we too, are protein based.
Some pomades do use wax. Even though this ingredient is indeed natural, we tend to shy away from it for two reasons. First, we prefer simple so as to allow the pomade to scientifically bond the way it should to the hair. Second, as us modern folks know, wax can and does build up in hair and that is not good. You need a clarifying shampoo and then conditioner, etc etc and the modern cycle of tons of products (and money) continues. Mareschal pomade does include a little ‘virgin’ or white bees wax, along with beautiful spices of the Mareshal powder. The result is anti bacterial and gorgeous smelling hair. Using this protein based pomatum and accompanying hair powder, in theory, you would never have to buy hair spray, gel, shampoo, conditioner or other hair products again.
Ingredients: mutton tallow, pig tallow, lemon and clove oil, virgin beeswax, clove, mace, cinnamon
This product takes two weeks to prepare properly (yup we do it old school!) so if we are out of stock please bear with us. We could make it faster but then you’d smell like a barnyard and no one wants that.
